It’s hard to think of a more successful product than Toyota’s line of TRD Pro pickups and SUVs. Despite sporting relatively minor updates compared to non-Pro models, TRD Pros enjoy a massive following, with dealer waitlists and over MSRP sales being the norm, even before the current auto industry supply issues took hold.
That's why each year’s release of updated TRD Pro models comes with a lot of anticipation as loyal fans wait to see what sort of Pro-specific colors and new options will be offered.
Upgrades to the '22 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro
This week Toyota took the wraps off its 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro to show not just a new body color, but a number of other upgrades as well.
The first thing you (or anyone on the road) will notice is the radical new color. It's called Electric Lime Metallic, and in keeping with the tradition will only be offered on the TRD Pro model (for the moment at least).
Another change is that "TRD Pro" is now stamped into the rear quarter panels—something that should be appreciated by those who want their Pro to stand out from the rest of the lineup. It's joined by other TRD Pro-specific equipment like a blacked out hood scoop, a unique front grille, special badging and more.
But the changes and upgrades are more than just appearance-related. New for 2022 are TRD-tuned Fox internal bypass shocks that bring added suspension lift, and new TRD-specific upper control arms which are engineered to compliment the more aggressive lift.
2022 Toyota Tacoma Trail Edition
Alongside the top of the line TRD Pro model, Toyota also showed off the upgraded 2022 Tacoma Trail Edition, which offers a similar experience at more affordable price.
The Trail Edition also gets a suspension lift (1.1-inches front, .5-inch rear) thanks to taller springs, with the added clearance helping to compliment its standard rear locking diff.
Aesthetic upgrades include a set of new bronze-finished TRD wheels, a new grille similar to the TRD Pro, and it can be had in Lunar Rock Gray, which was the exclusive color option for last year's TRD Pro models.
As we just mentioned, TRD Pro and Trail models already had no problem moving units before these updates and we see demand only rising once these new and improved 2022 models hit dealer lots.
Pricing hasn't been announced, but if you are interested in one of these trucks—especially the TRD Pro, you'll probably want to get in touch with your local dealer sooner rather than later.
