It seems like nothing escapes the pull of superhero pop culture these days. Every few months, a new film comes out and our conversations and newsfeeds turn towards whether or not we liked it, if it did justice to the comics and what it means for the next film. Even car companies are being pulled into their orbit. Lexus has announced a partnership with Black Panther, and a few years ago, Kia brought a whole host of Justice League themed cars to SEMA.
This got us thinking—what if the cars weren’t just superhero tie-ins, but were the heroes themselves? Below are our top five superhero-to-car conversions.
1. The Flash: Ferrari LaFerrari
Hybrid supercars are the latest trend in extreme speed for production cars. By using an electric motor along with a gasoline engine, they are able to pump even more power to the wheels. The LaFerrari uses a 6.3L V12 engine and an AC permanent magnet synchronous electric motor to create a combined 950hp. This ends up giving the car an estimated top speed of 218 mph. Like Barry Allen’s suit, it's incredibly high-tech and doesn’t come cheap—$1,420,000. Also like Barry’s suit, it’s red and looks good going fast.
2. The Hulk: 2014 Ram 2500 HD 4x4 Diesel
When it comes to strength, nothing beats a Cummins, and when it comes to Cummins-powered trucks, this is one of the strongest. Its 370hp is respectable, if not impressive, but its torque values far surpass it. The 6.7L engine creates a ridiculous 800 lb-ft of torque, resulting in a tow rating on 17,010 lbs. Be it a building, yacht or tow truck trying to take you to the impound lot, this truck can haul it. We wouldn’t want to see it angry.
3. Superman: Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport
Faster than a speeding bullet—if one car is known more than any other for insane speed, it’s the Bugatti Veyron. It set the world record for fastest production car in 2010, and while that record was recently broken by the Koenigsegg Agera RS, nothing comes close to the cultural relevance of the Veyron. It’s almost impossible to not have heard of it. Like Superman, the name is inescapable and ubiquitous with speed, and will be for a long time to come.
4. Aquaman: Gibbs Aquada
Cars aren’t generally meant to spend a long time in the water, or any amount of time, for that matter. But the Gibbs Aquada isn’t just a car. It’s a fully aquatic vehicle, equipped with two motors: one for land and another for sea. It comes with a 2.5L Rover V6 engine for driving on land and switches over to an HSA water jet when you drive into the water. They allow the car to reach 100 mph on land and 30 mph on the sea. That may not seem like much, especially next to a Bugatti, but this car also holds a speed world record. In 2004, Richard Branson used one to set the record for fastest time crossing the English Channel in an amphibious vehicle.
5. Captain America: Jeep Wrangler Rubicon JL
There isn’t much of anything more American than a Jeep. Even the modern-day models still retain many of the design elements of the classic vehicle that helped America win WWII. This version, like the latest version of Cap, is the most advanced, sleekest-looking one to date. It comes with a 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 cylinder, creating 270hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. That’s plenty to get up whatever trail or outcropping of rocks is in front of you. They even shaved 200 lbs by making the doors, hood and tailgate out of aluminum. Trust us, it's as good as advertised.
