With just three days to go to the big 4400 main King of The Hammers race, Hammertown is hoping with action. Race teams are pre-running and either doing last minute prep or fixes to their cars in between all of the other action going on. Wednesday brought the first round of 4400 class qualifying which showed off tons of action and excitement.
Other classes, competing in the UTV and Everyman races, earn race day position based on lottery – but the unlimited 4400 cars run a short course with both rock and sandy desert sections to earn their spot. Today saw a number of rollovers and ultimately a huge surprise with brothers Raul and JP Gomez earning the top two spots with a full 5 seconds over all other competitors.
Thursday brings another round of racers stepping up for round 2 of qualifying, after which full race day positions will be available. Until then, check unofficial times below and gallery above for today’s entrants and bounce over to Driving Line’s full 2016 Nitto King of The Hammers Powered by Optima Battery.
