While it still might seem like a new vehicle to those of us in North America, the current Ford Ranger pickup has been available in other markets around the world for a lot longer.
And while its basic platform might be a decade old, Ford has done a lot to keep the current Ranger feeling fresh, and the company's latest move brings back a popular package from the 1990s.
If you travel back to to the era of neon graphics and bright body colors, you might remember the Ford Ranger Splash of the '90s, and the 2022 Ranger Splash package brings a lot of that same energy.
Available on XLT and Lariat trim Rangers, the 2022 Splash Package starts at $1,495 and includes orange and black graphics for the body as well as unique 18-inch wheels.
There will also be a more thorough Ranger Splash model around that includes the above, as well as additional gloss black and orange accents on the exterior, and unique interior trimmings with orange contrast stitching.
Better yet, Ford says it plans to release new Splash Limited Edition trucks every few months finished in unique, one-time-only body colors and limited to just a few hundred examples.
While these may just be appearance packages that don't change how these trucks drive or improve their capability, we think it's a good thing whenever an automaker does something to inject more character into its vehicles.
At the very least it helps bring some additional enthusiast interest to the current Ranger as it nears the end of its lifespan, with a next gen replacement coming as soon the 2023 model year.
