Earlier this year when Ford debuted its all new 2021 F-150, the enthusiast crowd naturally saved most its excitement for the eventual third generation F-150 Raptor which will of course be based on the new pickup platform.
And while Ford has thus far kept the next gen Raptor under wraps, they’ve just provided us with a little appetizer in the form of the 2021 F-150 Tremor.
Whether you want to consider it a “Raptor Lite” or just a an F-150 that's been factory outfitted for better off-road performance, the Tremor package has been engineered to bring a balance of work truck capability and all-terrain excitement.
It’s built on the SuperCrew body with a 5.5 foot bed and all F-150 Tremors will be powered by Ford’s 3.5L EcoBoost V6 with a 10-speed automatic transmission—of course 4WD is standard.
Upgraded F-150
Among its upgrades over the standard F-150, the Tremor includes new shocks and springs for added ground clearance, new knuckles, a locking rear differential and optional Torsen limited slip on the front differential.
It also gets an optional transfer case based on the one from the Raptor a front bash plate and running boards designed for off-road use. It also brings some trick electronics to the table, with multiple drive modes, hill descent control and a new “One Pedal” trail system which modulates throttle and gas on its own.
Naturally it gets some visual tweaks to set it apart as well, including unique 18” wheels, “Tremor” badging inside and out and “Active Orange” accents inside the cab.
Ford has also stressed that the new F-150 Tremor will also be very adept at work truck duty, capable of carrying 1,885 pounds with a tow rating of 10,900 pounds.
While the wait for the next generation Raptor continues, the 2021 F-150 Tremor will be the next best thing—and with its ever impressive list of upgrades it should bring a a lot of the Raptor’s fun factor and capability at a much more affordable price.
Look for it to hit dealers in the summer of 2021.
