Shortly after Ram took the wraps off its radical 2021 TRX pickup, we pondered whether Chevy would ever build a wild, big-horsepower off-roader to compete with the TRX and the rumored upcoming V8 version of the Ford F-150 Raptor.
And while GM itself has been quiet on the subject, you can now get your crazy off-road 2021 Silverado with the help of one of the most legendary names in high performance Chevy history.
We are talking about Yenko, the famous muscle car builder of the '60s and '70s whose name is now owned by Specialty Vehicle Engineering, an outfit known for its factory-sanctioned upgrade packages for a variety of GM cars and trucks.
The 2021 Yenko Silverado Off-Road is basically exactly what a Chevy fan would be looking for in a Ram TRX competitor, with a ton of horsepower on tap and real all-terrain capability.
The heart of truck is the fully-built LT1 V8 under the hood with upgraded forged internals, ported heads, an upgraded fuel system - and most importantly a centrifugal supercharger that puts output at 800 horsepower and 720 pound feet of torque.
The engine is mated to a beefed up six-speed automatic, and the truck of course equipped with four-wheel-drive to help use that power both on and off pavement.
Other upgrades to the truck include a BDS four inch lift kit with FOX rear shocks, an upgraded rear way bar and traction bars. It also gets six-piston brakes to help slow things down.
Plenty of works has been done to set the truck apart cosmetically as well, including flared fenders, Yenko badging, and a sports bar with optional LED lighting. The interior also gets the full Yenko treatment with Hounds Tooth upholstery for that throwback look.
Last but not least, the Yenko Silverado Off Road rides on a set of 20"x10 12-spoke wheels wrapped in a set of Nitto Ridge Grappler tires, ensuring it will have the off-road capability to back up its horsepower.
And if you thought the Ram TRX was going to be hard to come by, the Yenko Silverado is going to even be rarer. SVE plans to build just 50 of examples with a rumored price of around $80,000.
Whether factory or aftermarket, the high performance off-road war is only getting hotter and hotter.
