Nearly all mainstream cars go through mid-cycle refreshes during their production runs, but they are a little less common in the word of supercars. That's what makes it especially cool that Ford has given its flagship GT supercar some significant improvements for 2020.
Not that it was lacking for power before, the 2020 GT's 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6 now makes 13 more horsepower than before, for a total of 660. More importantly, the car will deliver improved cooling and a revised engine tune. The formerly optional Akrapovič titanium exhaust has also been made standard.
Additionally, Ford will be offering two new color schemes for the GT. One is called "Liquid Carbon" and as its name suggests it leaves the GT's carbon fiber unpainted with the exception of a rich clear coat. It also gets standard carbon fiber wheels.
Last but not least, the 2020 GT will also be available in a new Gulf Racing heritage scheme which provides a new take on the iconic orange and blue racing livery. The scheme and numbers pay homage to the Le Mans-winning GT-40s from 1968 and 1969.
While none of these updates fundamentally change the Ford GT, they all serve to make what was already an incredibly desirable machine even more special. Ford says deliveries of the 2020 GT are currently ongoing for those lucky enough to have been selected to purchase one, with production of the car finishing in 2022.
